New Mexico Energy Research, Outreach and Education
The New Mexico Energy Initiatives (NMEI) Consortium is an initiative led by Jean-Lucien Fonquergne, a Research Engineer at New Mexico Tech (NMT), aimed at bringing together energy stakeholders across New Mexico to advance energy research, education, and outreach. While no official consortium has been formed to date, NMEI has already gathered numerous stakeholders who have expressed strong interest in collaboration.
The initiative aims to expand its network to include New Mexico’s academic institutions, utilities, industries, NGOs, and government entities.
However, the main reason an official structure has not yet been formed is the presence of a similar group with a broader focus—the Northern Rio Grande Corridor Collaborative (NRGCC) (www.nrgcc.org). Many key stakeholders are still engaged under an MOU with NRGCC and have been inquiring about its current status and why it is not actively functioning.
In parallel with these discussions, NMEI is actively strategizing on its structure to ensure that it delivers meaningful results rather than just existing as an initiative in name only.
The goal is to determine how best to organize a group that will drive sustainable energy advancements in New Mexico while addressing stakeholder concerns.
