About New Mexico Energy Initiatives (NMEI)

New Mexico Energy Initiatives (NMEI) is an independent, nonpartisan, fact-based initiative hosted at New Mexico Tech (NMT), dedicated to strengthening New Mexico’s energy ecosystem through collaboration, research, education, and informed dialogue.

Founded in 2024, NMEI brings together universities, national laboratories, utilities, industry, government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to address New Mexico’s energy challenges and opportunities.

Our mission is built around four pillars:

• • Research & Development: Advance independent, multidisciplinary research and innovation to address New Mexico’s energy challenges and opportunities.

  • Data: Develop and share reliable energy data, indicators, and analytical tools to promote transparency and support fact-based decision-making.

  • Collaboration: Connect universities, national laboratories, utilities, industry, government, Tribal Nations, and communities to foster partnerships and turn ideas into action.

  • Outreach & Education: Promote informed, nonpartisan dialogue through conferences, workshops, publications, and educational initiatives while engaging the next generation of energy professionals.

Through the New Mexico Energy Initiatives Consortium (NMEIC), we aim to build a statewide network that connects expertise, encourages partnerships, and translates ideas into meaningful outcomes.

Our goal is not to advocate for a particular energy technology or policy, but to create a trusted space where diverse perspectives can come together, exchange knowledge, and advance practical solutions for New Mexico’s energy future.
